You shall go the ball: AFDS takes The London Ball 2021
You shall go to the ball.
On Friday 1st October in the magnificent heart of Mayfair at the InterContinental London Park Lane, The London Ball 2021 took place.
The electrifying atmosphere was apparent as ever, solidified by the splendour of the incredible Empress Orchestra, of whom performed live during the dances.
Amongst this surrounded glistening smiles, laughter and chat. It was a breath-taking experience to see dancers from around the world, finally able to come together in a social environment, having only recently been able to rid of their desktop-dancing and take to the floor.
It was clear to see that the virus-driven lockdown had not defeated the dance world, but only made us stronger. Competitiveness was joined with unity, and nerves combined with sheer appreciation to be there, surrounded by a community with one main aim: to dance.
The room was filled with anticipation; females looking fabulous in their dashing dresses and captivating make-up, and men with their charming appearances, stylishly suited-and-booted. Between them, there was not a hair out of place.
From Youth to Pro-Am to Senior, an array of talent was exhibited through day to dusk.
We thoroughly enjoyed watching the young dancers take to the floor – our future of dance – perhaps some for the first ever time. You could not overlook the passion they presented, Ballroom and Latin dances alike. It was apparent that they had been putting their heart and soul into practicing prior to the event.
We would like to give a special mention to those who chose the comfort and stability of Anita Flavina Dance Shoes for the competition: Nauris Kalva & partner Jackie, Stephen Arnold, Ruth Whitehouse, Gordon Banner and Robert Veljanovski; all of whom danced exceptionally and did us proud!
We would also like to congratulate every dancer that took to the floor; we amend you for your hard-work and dedication! We hope to see you all again in another beautiful setting.
Lastly, a thank you to the directors Andrew & Irina for putting on such an enchanting event, and to the carefully selected, professional judges, including the Chairman of Adjudication: Robin Short.
We look forward to seeing you all again, back where we belong.
